Wonder Goal in Cup Triumph

A. Muppet and Rizzo joined the fold this week, M. Stroud long term absentee and Oscar only 1-2 weeks away. Doug continued in goal. Cillit Bang FC were taking part in the cup tournament in the first mini league phase against AFC Nay whom they have faced twice before last season boasting a 5-2 previous win.

First Half

On a wet and slippery evening the two teams looked for some early initiative. That came in the form of a quick goal for AFC Nay, Doug's goalkick heading to the goalscorer, after dodging Gonzo and Beaker he fires them into the lead. Before you know it some slack tracking from Swedish Chef gifted the crossfield pass from the kick in an easy tap in. Now it was Cillit Bang FC's chance to attack, A. Muppet takes a simple kick in to Swedish Chef, his scuffed shot ends up at Rizzo's feet, with a flick of the heel he almost converts the chance.

Goal 1-0 // 17 Swedish Chef - Assist 12 Rizzo

Rizzo intercepts the loose ball and strings the ball through two players for Swedish Chef to turn and slalom through the defense to have his shot deflected into the bottom right. The goal brings up Chef's tenth goal of the season.

Looking for the second goal, Rizzo lobs a neat pass into Kermit, swivelling passing to Beaker he is inches away from a tap in to the cross. From the resulting corner Kermit drills it in low, Rizzo is also inches away from sending it goalwards. Further pressure and Beaker takes advantage of the slippy surface to stroll towards the box and shoot just past the post. A reminder of AFC Nay's intentions came about as Beaker was dispossessed, the striker jockeyed by A. Muppet wins a corner after Doug makes his first save of the evening.

Counter attacks were tricky to pull off, the wet surface made the ball slippery to keep under control, one team would move, lose possession then vice versa, it was a frustrating and yet exciting spectacle, after a little mixup in the centre Kermit flicks the ball off to Swedish Chef liking to pull off some skills he executed them but alas his ploy of sending in a cross for Kermit to attack was met with the keeper's hands. AFC Nay wasted a glorious chance of extending the lead from a move down the wing, after the ball was centred for the unmarked midfielder he frustrated himself by not remotely hitting the target. Either side of some substitutions and the bounce deceiving Kermit another guilt edge opportunity for the goalscoring defender to net his second when it bounced off him for a goalkick to the delight of the CBFC defense and Doug.

The shots were even to both sides as they pushed for goals, some good play from Kermit, Beaker and Gonzo needed a strong tackle to break down the move, Big Bird reading the keeper's pass was unlucky to see his effort go wide. AFC Nay's striker was having some great success from winning the ball at the goalkicks bringing his midfielders into play, their best move was lifted over the crossbar. A lot of frustrating play where moves broke down or blocked out, crosses were close but not enough, Beaker's attempted lob into the box turned shot needed a tipping over the bar, set pieces came to nothing in a close half between the sides.

Second Half

After some good passing between the CBFC players, a clearance falling to the opposition striker set him on his way to bypass 3 tackles from Big Bird and Gonzo then a cross missing both Swedish Chef and Gonzo for the second defender to bag himself a tap in. It couldn't have been a worse start to the half. So for Cillit Bang FC wanted to win this match they were going to have to beast the opposition and that is exactly what they did, whacked up the gears a couple of dozen.

With Gonzo winning back possession, Rizzo waits for the best time to knock the ball into Kermit's run, however a handball and no advantage gives the referee no option to blow his whistle.

Goal 2-3 // 12 Rizzo - Free Kick

Rizzo strikes the dead ball through the AFC Nay wall, the defender lifting his leg as he turns away from the shot proves costly as it deflects ever so slightly regardless into the net reducing the deficit. Rizzo scores his fifth goal of the season.

AFC Nay had the fortune on their side after knocking the ball out twice from their own players after good defensive work from Rizzo and Doug resulted in a frenzy of corners. They came to nothing.

Goal 3-3 // 17 Swedish Chef - Assist 5 Gonzo

A goal kick rolled to Big Bird, pass to Kermit, fkicks it to Gonzo, quick pass into Swedish Chef's feet, trying to return the pass, it bounces off Gonzo's calf on a plate for Swedish Chef shoot and score from outside the box into the bottom left of the net for his second brace in 3 games. Game on.

Turning up the pressure, closing down the opposition Rizzo has plenty of time to bring forward the ball and weigh up his options, he fancies having a crack and unleashes a powerful shot which crashes off the right hand post. Upping the ante, Big Bird takes a simple kick in to Gonzo, lobbing the ball Kermit controls it well and lays off the ball for Swedish Chef to get in behind the defense, only his shot on target is right at the keeper. Good going perhaps, as from the corner.

Goal 4-3 // 8 Big Bird

The pull back on the corner to Gonzo is broken down from the oncoming tackle, its cleared to just inside the halfway line. Big Bird unleashes a straight shot at goal, the keeper tries but can't stop it go into the net to cries of joy and for the complete turn around of events, just 3 minutes 50 seconds from the second goal to get into a winning position in spectacular circumstances. The goals kept getting scored further and further away, this goal a beast of the lot. The biggest distance from goal recorded by Cillit Bang FC.

Fully on top as AFC Nay surely must of not known what had hit them the pressure is kept on, Rizzo fires in a great cross from the kick in which Swedish Chef misses out on getting a foot on. Rizzo goes close himself with a challenge for a header, AFC Nay have a series of set pieces in the left corner area, one shot on target is saved by Doug.

Goal 5-3 // 12 Rizzo - Assist 17 Swedish Chef

Swedish Chef blocks the shot from a kick in, pouncing on the ball first he sends an early pass down the field to Rizzo. Rizzo decides to have a driven ground shot, good choice as the keeper fails to get to ground quick enough leaving the ball to roll underneath him. Rizzo with 6 goals in 7 games.

With the wind fully out of their sails AFC Nay really struggled to get anything more, a few simple saves for Doug and a kick in scored direct from the kick in which had to be disallowed as it was scored directly with no interference but it was fair to say the attacking threat from the boys in blue and come to a halt as passing got sloppy. The first 3 points of the cup league stage were in the bag and with 2 games to play can Cillit Bang FC progress in this season's cup competition.
